Spam Email Address

We are receiving a high volume of spam members trying to join this forum to post spam topics. We are trying to stop this from happening and have therefore banned the following email address from applying to become members:

*@mail.ru

The above list wll be added to as and when required so please check it out if you are having trouble registering. If you are currently using one of the above email address then please change this to enable you to still use this forum. If you only have access to one of the email address above then please send a private message and we will add you to exclude list as a genuine member.

We've recently started getting this problem on the Pointools forum - so now we manually validate each registration, 90% of these are spam, most trace back to Russia

How are you doing the validation. I have been checking most new registration but only visually. is there a beter way.

Theres a option in the Admin panel to validate new registrations. You then get an email whenever anyone registers. I then just check the user's email - not perfect but does filter out a lot of of the spammers

Doing a similar thing. As the scanning forum also asks for company and position, spammers tend to put in absolute rubish.

mail.ru is very popular mail service in Russia and not only for spammers. Could you exclude it from list? It's not a problem for me, but it could be a problem for other people, who going to join this forum.

I have excluded this form the list, however if we do recieve high volumes of spam then we may have to ban it again sorry. Google mail is also popular but that too sends lots of spam members to the forum.

I have had to re-add this mail domain to the list due to high volumes of spam members once agian. If anyone who genuinely wants to become a member by using this mail domain name then please email me and I will set this up for you.
